NAB 2015

Legendary pro audio equipment manufacturer, Sennheiser unveiled their latest wireless system at NAB 2015 last month in Las Vegas. The new system is called AVX and is a revolutionary step forward in the digital audio realm designed to make the lives of filmmakers on set a lot easier than before. The AVX comes in a few versions, one with a hand held reporter mic and a receiver, and two versions with lavalier microphones – one with the ME-2 and another with the more advanced MKE-2 lavalier microphone.

Convergent Design recently announced the most complete support of any monitor/recorder for the new revolutionary 4K Canon C300 Mark II camera. The Odyssey7Q+ and the Odyssey7Q will, with the new Odyssey RAW Bundle (sold through Convergent Design), allow recording in 4K & UHD in RAW up to 30p as well as 4K & UHD processed and converted to Apple ProRes up to 30p. Without the Odyssey RAW Bundle, the Odyssey monitor/recorders can record 2K/HD 12-bit or 10-bit 4:4:4 RGB video in Uncompressed DPX up to 60p.

Their recorders have become industry standard on pretty much any shoot involving a Sony FS700/FS7 or Canon C500 when 4K recording is required. The big pre-NAB announcement this year was definitely the much anticipated Canon C300 Mark II. The latest EOS cinema camera from Canon is packed with a ton of advance features including in-camera 10-bit 422 4K recording up to 30p in the new Canon developed XF-AVC codec as well as slow motion in 1080p/2K up to 120 frames per second. At the heart of the new C300 Mark II lays a brand new 8.85MP Super 35 CMOS 4K sensor capable if the phenomenal 15 stops of dynamic range.
