Every year in the beginning of April thousands upon thousands of video professionals and industry folks descend upon the desert oasis and get lost in the lavishness of Las Vegas for the biggest broadcast video trade show in the world – The National Association of Broadcasters Show, or simply NAB Show.
It has been a very busy week and a busy month for ARRI. A month ago at BVE 2015 we had the chance to see their “miniaturized” ALEXA Mini (very appropriately named) and just after announcing a new ALEXA SXT camera line-up earlier last week, ARRI have come around and announced a new lens flare sets for their Master Anamorphic series of lenses. Hollywood titans JJ Abrams and Paul Thomas Anderson, a proven anamorphic aficionados, will be particularly excited to hear about these new lens flare sets from ARRI.
Canon has a long-standing tradition in the manufacturing of lenses for TV production and is known for making some of the finest broadcast lenses around. Despite the recent surge in larger sensor cameras used for ENG work, such as Super 35 sensor cameras like the Canon EOS C300, the majority of broadcast work is still done via 2/3” HDTV cameras and lenses. Continuing their tradition in giving broadcast camera professionals the range and quality in lens options and glass, Canon have just announced their latest broadcast lens – the HJ24ex7.5B specifically designed for 2/3” HD acquisition.
Talented DP Bradford Young, known for lensing incredible films such as Aint Them Bodies Saints, and Pariah, recently shot his latest thriller set in New York in the winter of 1981 entitled “A Most Violent Year”. Directed by J.C. Chandor, for the shoot, they decided to go with the ultimate image quality when it comes to digital cinema and the anamorphic look - ALEXA XT Studio, XT Plus and XT M cameras, as well as the marvellous ARRI/ZEISS Master Anamorphic lenses.
