After a long wait, the much anticipated successor the highly popular broadcast industry workhorse the C300, today Canon officially announced the C300 Mark II. The new camera from Canon features 4K internal recording in a newly developed 4K 10bit 4:2:2 codec called XF-AVC capable of bit rates of up to 410Mb/s.
The ARRI Amira has been very popular with documentary cameraman and becoming the go-to camera for projects requiring ultimate quality images and a flexible workflow. ARRI are committed to expanding the functionality of their docu-style camera and with the latest firmware update they announced, they are turning the AMIRA into a 4K UHD machine.
ARRI have just released the much awaited SUP 2.0 firmware update package, free of charge, for AMIRA users who already have the 4K/UHD license from the ARRI Shop, which unlocks the UHD capabilities of the ARRI documentary camera. Last year at IBC in Amsterdam, Sony announced the large sensor 4K FS7, which proved to be quite the hit for them. We've been taking large numbers of pre-orders from day one, and have delivery quite a few already, but the camera is still not as widely available as Sony and we would like due to the overwhelming demand from owner/operators, rental houses, and production companies eager to get into professional 4K acquisition for a very acceptable price.
