2024 has arrived and with the new year, we are all invigorated with the anticipation of a surge in cinematic productions, not just here in the UK, but overseas as well. Anton Bauer just unveiled a new firmware update that brings a plethora of enhancements to Anton Bauer’s VCLX NM2 cine battery system. The VCLX NM2 marks the evolution of the Academy Award-winning block battery system, VCLX.

The Anton Bauer VCLX NM2 stands as a versatile freestanding 600Wh power station designed to drive high-current cameras and lights with unwavering power at 14.4V, 28V, and 48V for optimal performance in cinematic productions. Boasting 100% flight safety, rugged weather protection, intelligent diagnostics, and a speedy 3.5-hour charge time, it sets a new standard in the industry.

Battery Health Tracking

Navigate to the 'System Info' section in the advanced menu, and you'll discover a timestamped value revealing the last completed learning cycle. A learning cycle involves a complete discharge of the unit from 100% to 0%, offering valuable insights for monitoring the battery's health over time.

It's crucial to note that consistently performing partial discharges may impact the battery's ability to accurately monitor its health. In the absence of a full discharge within 60 days, the battery will prompt a calibration cycle. While not mandatory, incomplete discharges will be marked with an asterisk, signaling potential variations in capacity measurement accuracy.

For VCLX NM2 owners, Anton Bauer recommend implementing a full discharge at least once every 60 days to ensure the fuel gauge reflects the battery's health capacity with 100% accuracy.

What's New in firmware v2.1

New support for:

  • Added back button to user interface (UI) menus
  • Enhanced USB field updates by validating the entire image before attempting an update
  • Introduced toggling between battery percentage and time to empty (TTE) during discharge
  • Integrated Anton/Bauer (AB) cycles for tracking partial cycles
  • Anton/Bauer (AB) battery health feature for precise tracking of the unit's discharge capacity
  • Note: If the discharge load is low enough and the unit is fully discharged to 0/1% Relative State of Charge (RSOC), plugging it into a charger will update the Anton/Bauer (AB) battery health
  • Added the ability to prematurely exit the built-in self-test (BIST)
  • Included fuel gauge communication error in the fault module
