Welcome to the latest episode of our weekly roundup of news from the TV and film industry.

This week we are featuring the newly announced Sony a7C II and a7C R compact full-frame mirrorless cameras, the brand new FE 16-35mm f2.8 G Master II wide-angle zoom from Sony, and the completely redesigned, next-generation Teradek MOTR.S lens motor.

Sony a7C II and a7C R full-frame mirrorless cameras

Sony has expanded their alpha 7C compact camera range with two new models. The new a7C II comes packed with new video-centric features such as a 33 megapixel back-illuminated sensor paired with a new AI chip for improved subject recognition and auto-focus, and support for 10bit 4K/30 in full-frame or 4K/60p in Super35 mode. 10bit 4:2:2 on-board recording is a big deal as it makes it easy to match footage with the FX6 or FX9 since the new camera also supports Slog3 and S-Cinetone. Other improvements include advanced in-body image stabilisation with Active-mode and custom LUTs for monitoring. The a7C R on the other hand comes with a massive 61 megapixel full-frame chip and photo optimised features, while also supporting 10bit 4K video on-board.

Sony FE 16-35mm f2.8 G Master II

Sony also unveiled a 2nd generation FE 16-35mm G Master II lens optimised for video and especially run-n-gun and gimbal work. The full-frame zoom lens is now slightly more compact and also lighter making it more video-friendly when mounted on cameras such as the Sony FX3, FX6, or A7s III, which are often used on gimbal stabilisers. Sony has also completely overhauled the optical formula for this lens minimising chromatic abberations and also improving focus breathing when shooting video. The 2nd generation 16-35mm G Master also features a shorter minimum focus distance of just 22 cm.
