SmallHD just announced a couple of brand new super-bright monitors during the BVE 2017 trade show in London. The new SmallHD Ultra Bright 5-inch 503 and 703 Monitors feature stunning new Full HD displays with incredible brightness up to 2500 nits on the bigger 7-inch 703 model; both monitors are set to ship in March. The new SmallHD 503 UltraBright features a stunning 5-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS LCD display with 10bit colour depth, and the super-bright 2200 nits of brightness rendering a sunhood absolutely useless. Those familiar with the SmallHD 502 will be glad to find out that the new 503 features a bit of a different design - with 2 new assignable buttons on the front as well as an optically bonded Gorilla Glass to protect the super-crisp display. 3G-SDI and HDMI I/O connectivity comes standard, and so is a SD card for user configurable 3D LUT's, firmware updates, and profile settings. The new 503 and 703 monitors can be powered with either a V-mount or Anton Bauer style battery, or the already familiar from the previous generation - Sony L-Series NP-F style batteries. However, for the new monitors, customers would need to purchase battery plates separate, as they are not included with the monitor purchase. The 5-inch 503 Ultra Bright with its new stunning display makes it very easy to get the perfect shot in bright exteriors, when using a 3-axis gimbal for example such as the DJI Ronin or Movi PRO. The larger 7-inch 703 Ultra Bright features a similar Full HD display with a bit higher maximum nit brightness of 2500, which in itself is extremely high. This new monitor will definitely make a fantastic directors monitor thanks to it's solid build, 7-inch real estate, and easy integration with wireless transmitter systems from the likes of Paralinx and Teradek. As with the 503 Ultra Bright, the 703 Ultra Bright features user assignable buttons and interchangeable battery plates. The 703 Ultra Bright makes use of 5 assignable buttons compared to the 2 on the 503. Both HDMI in and out as well as 3G-SDI inputs and outputs are present to ensure compatibility with pretty much any camera out there whether professionals or semi pro. Users familiar with the user-friendly PageBuilder OS will be glad to find it installed on the new monitors as well. Pricing for the UK at the moment is £2,195 + VAT for the smaller 503 model, and £2,625 + VAT for the larger 703 Ultra Bright model.
