Canon announced a brand new compact servo zoom lens - the CN-E 18-80mm at NAB 2016, which is surprisingly affordable and great for run-n-gun shooting scenarios. The 18-80mm bridges the gap between premium servo zoom lenses for Super 35 sensor cameras and traditional stills zoom lenses that are often used for videography. The Compact Servo 18-80mm T4.4L features a compact design, very similar to the 70-200mm F2.8L II EF zoom in terms of size, with a native EF mount and a 77mm front filter thread for easy mounting of ND or polarizer filters. The 18-80mm compact zoom is parfocal and even though it is a T4.4 (F4.0 equivalent) the lens produces quite lovely bokeh at longer focal lengths. Canon 18-80 What sets the 18-80mm Compact Servo from other compact servo zooms is the 3 stage image stabilisation built into the lens, which will assist cinematographers greatly when doing handheld work. When paired with the Canon C100 Mark II or C300 Mark II the lens supports Dual-Pixel AF for even more versatility in various shooting scenarios. The lens features a 12v DC in for powering when used on non-Cinema EOS cameras. An optional zoom rocker grip with start/stop functionality is also available. The 18-80mm Compact Servo Zoom is expected to start shipping in October and is currently available to pre-order for the very affordable price of £4,328 including VAT.   Check out these two videos, which go over the features and benefits of the new lens and the ME200S-SH multi-purpose camera.
