Welcome to the latest issue of our weekly roundup of news from the TV and film industry.

This week we are featuring the a6400 4K mirrorless camera from Sony, DJI's new Smart Remote Controller which features an ultra-bright built-in display screen & controls plus the new Laowa 9mm f2.8 Zero-D DL lens from Venus Optics.

Sony a6400 4K mirrorless camera

Sony just announced a new 4K mirrorless camera targeting vloggers and mobile content creators. The new Sony a6400 comes with a 24 megapixel APS-C sensor, and a super-fast autofocus system with Advance Real-Time Eye AF as well as real time tracking, which works also in video. The a6400 also has a built-in timelapse video function and a 180 degree tilting screen for those planning on using the camera for vlogging. Sony also announced details for a major firmware updates to the a9, A7 III and A7RIII cameras, which will get the real time tracking update in March and Eye AF for animal eye later in the Summer.

DJI Smart Remote Controller

DJI also announced a new Smart Remote Controller, which features an ultra-bright built-in display screen and controls optimized for DJI drones allowing pilots to fly the newest drones such as the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom without using a smartphone or tablet. This functionality is possible thanks to the latest DJI OcuSync 2.0 video transmission system capable of displaying a Full HD from the drone’s camera.

Laowa 9mm f2.8 Zero-D DL lens

Speaking of aerial cinematography and drone, Venus Optics announced the DL mount version of their 9mm f2.8 Wide Angle Lens for the DJI Inspire 2 equipped with the DJI X7 Super 35 camera. Currently the widest lens available in its class, the new Laowa 9mm f2.8 offers a 113 degree viewing angle and close to zero distortion thanks to its advanced optical design.
