Behind the Scenes: Big Sky camera for Sphere Studios

The Las Vegas Sphere debuted earlier this year billed as the ultimate immersive experience and a recently released behind the scenes allows us to take a peek behind the curtain of how content is created for the world's largest LED screen. 20 times larger than an IMAX screen, the incredible size and shape of the Sphere screen required the company behind it to build its own extreme resolution camera. The Big Sky camera features an 18K resolution 300+ megapixel square sensor paired with an extremely wide-angle lens. The system evolved from a contraption, which features multiple RED cameras rigged together, but made post-production a nightmare. Academy award nominated director Darren Aronofsky also recently took the Big Sky camera alongside the ALEXA 65 to film "Postcards from Earth", an exclusive project, which will only screen inside the Sphere.
