This week we are featuring Sony's announcement of two new feature-packed 4K PTZ cameras, Irix's new lightweight matte box - the 'Matte Box IQ', plus we take a look at the latest update for DaVinci Resolve 18.

Sony's new PTZ cameras

Sony has announced two new 4K IP-based PTZ cameras with some impressive features. The new SRG-A40 and SRG-A12 PTZ cameras are equipped with built-in AI PTZ Auto Framing technology, which offers some significant benefits. This advanced technology allows the cameras to automatically track and naturally frame presenters, regardless of movement or posture, for seamless content creation and control. The new PTZ Auto Framing technology features automatic operation for quick object tracking and rediscovery, as well as multiple Auto Framing options. Multiple Auto Framing angles provide dedicated options for close-ups, waist-up or full body images, allowing for more creative freedom and customization options.

Irix Matte Box IQ

Innovative lens and accessories maker Irix has unveiled a new and compact matte box. Called the Matte Box IQ, the compact and lightweight accessory comes in at just under 200 grams and offers a quick install thanks to its clip-on attachment mechanism in addition to an adjustable carbon fibre top flag to block out unwanted flares. The Matte Box IQ can be natively mounted to cine lenses with a 95mm diameter or other lenses of various sizes thanks to the additional adapters designed to attach to standard filter threads with diameters from 52mm to 86mm. The portable matte box is also compatible with the Irix Magnetic Mount filters making it easy to swap between different filters, while the matte finish helps to reduce light reflections.

DaVinci Resolve 18.1.3

Blackmagic Design has released a new update for DaVinci Resolve 18. Firmware Update 18.1.3 is now available to download and comes with a few new features and important bug fixes. The latest update adds support for Uncompressed DNx formats as well as native support for Sony Venice 2 file formats. In addition, the new update also brings new color selection options for Fusion highlight tools, as well as better Text+ performance and improved handling of audio effect dialogs. Proxy files from vertical clips now preserve the aspect ratio, while copying grades to compound nodes saves the keyframe alignment. Editors and colourists working with ARRIRAW on MacOS also benefit from a fix relating to some decode issues with ARRIRAW on Macs running multiple GPUs.
