NAB 2016 is just around the corner and most manufacturers are getting busy finalising their announcements about new products they've been working hard on for years. With just days away from the biggest trade show in our industry, Leica and sister company CW Sonderoptic have some exciting news for cinematographers and rental houses. CW SonderOptic Leica Summicron CCW Sonderoptic will show off two brand new lenses in the Leica Summicron-C cine lens family at NAB 2016. The new lenses are the highly anticipated 40mm T2.0 and the previously unannounced 15mm T2.0. These lenses bring the growing Leica Summicron-C family of primes to 11 focal lengths, all T2.0. The new Summicron-C primes feature the legendary Leica look with “creamy sharpness”, world class image quality that sets Leica cine products apart from other lenses with their favourable, natural treatment of skin tones without sacrificing clarity and resolution. The Leica Summicron-C primes are also compact, lightweight and are extremely well made so as to cope with the ever increasing and stringent requirements of modern film and TV productions. All Summicron-C lenses have matched focus and iris ring locations and 95mm front diameter, except for the new ultra-wide 15mm lens which has a slightly longer focus throw like the 135mm telephoto. “With the recent popularity of the Leica Summicron-C lenses in the high-end feature film, television and commercial markets, we received many requests to add more focal lengths,” said Gerhard Baier, Managing Director of CW Sonderoptic. “Highest on the wish lists were the classic 40 mm and a very wide lens. The decision to go with a 15mm is a nod toward one of Leica’s most iconic and popular still photography lenses, the 15mm R lens. Although this is a brand new optical design, we are constantly inspired by Leica’s timeless image quality when designing for motion pictures.”
The new Leica Summicron-C 40mm lens is expected to start shipping in June 2016 followed by the Summicron-C 15mm in October 2016. For all your Leica requirements get in touch with our Cine Lens specialists at 0208 977 1222.
