Consistent Controlled Flares

The new Zeiss Supreme Prime Radiance prime lenses make it possible for cinematographers to create beautiful, consistent and controlled flares in the image while maintaining contrast and avoiding transmission loss. Yet, they offer all attributes of a modern cinema lens: full-frame/large-format coverage, high speed, robustness and smooth and reliable focus.

The Zeiss Supreme Prime Radiance lenses are available in a total of 11 focal lengths: 18 mm, 21 mm, 25 mm, 29 mm, 35 mm, 40 mm, 50 mm, 65 mm, 85 mm, 100 mm and 135 mm – all T1.5. Although being slightly warmer than regular Supreme Primes, they pair very well with them.

The Zeiss Supreme Radiance prime lenses have been specifically developed for the latest generation full-frame/large format cinema cameras such as the Sony VENICE 1 and 2, ARRI Alexa LF, ALEXA Mini LF, RED V-Raptor, and others.

However, this lens has a 46.3mm image circle, which allows you to use the lens with full-frame and Super 35mm sensors. In addition, the lens has been designed to be small, as far as lenses that cover full-frame sensors go, to better match the diminishing size of cameras. 

Cinematic sensor coverage and fast speed

The Zeiss Supreme Prime lenses are designed to cover cinematic sensors from Super 35 and smaller to full frame and beyond (FF+), making them ideal for current and future camera systems. With most lenses at T1.5 the Supreme Primes demonstrate their unsurpassed craftsmanship in tricky low-light environments.

A new T* blue coating for a new look

Instead of just uncoating lens elements, Zeiss revisited their popular T* coating formulae and reworked them to create a new coating - T* blue. This method ensured that the resulting flares can not only be planned and reproduced but were also able to maintain contrast and avoid transmission loss that one normally experiences with uncoated lens elements.

A warmer, classic look

Under regular lighting, Supreme Prime Radiance render like modern and versatile cinematography lenses. With appropriate lighting however, the lenses start to flare. Cinematographers can decide and plan when they want to create flares rather than relying on unforeseen effects. Overall, Supreme Prime Radiance are a touch warmer than Supreme Primes but still retain all the other features that one might have experienced from using the regular Supreme Prime lenses.

Aesthetic focus fall-off and elegant bokeh

A very smooth transition between in-focus and out of focus areas characterise the unique look of the Zeiss Supreme Prime lenses. This adds richer texture and greater depth to the image.

The unique Zeiss eXtended Data technology offers lens metadata critical for VFX-intensive productions and workflows on set. The frame accurate information about focal length, focusing distance, T-stop and depth-of-field enables the camera assistant to work more precisely and eliminates guesswork for the DIT.

Zeiss eXtended Data technology

Simplify and increase the accuracy of the image capturing and processing workflow. Zeiss eXtended Data unifies two data sets: key lens data based on the Cooke /i Technology and the Zeiss distortion and shading lens data. After recording on set together with the video files, they can be applied in post-production for compositing for example by using the Zeiss developed lens plugin.
