Pro-level monitoring in SmallHD’s slimmest, lightest 5-inch monitor
The Focus 504 is a compact 5-inch on-camera monitor for filmmakers, camera operators and content creators who want serious monitoring tools without extra bulk. It combines a bright Full HD touchscreen, professional SDI and HDMI connectivity, and SmallHD’s PageOS software in a body designed for handheld rigs, gimbals and fast-moving shoots.
The Focus 504 has a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 touchscreen rated at 1000 nits, so your image stays readable outdoors and on location. The panel covers 100% of the Rec.709 color space. That gives you a dependable reference for judging color, contrast and exposure while you shoot, whether the camera is mounted, handheld or rigged to a gimbal.
At this size, resolution matters. Full HD detail on a 5-inch screen makes it easier to confirm critical focus, check framing and catch problems before they reach the edit.
The Focus 504 runs PageOS, SmallHD’s operating system for its professional monitors. It is built around customizable pages, so you can set up the screen for the way you work. You might keep a clean image with frame guides for one setup, then switch to a page with exposure and focus tools for another.
The software includes:
Because PageOS is shared across SmallHD’s range, anyone who has used one of their monitors will feel at home. If you’re new to the brand, the touchscreen interface is straightforward to learn.
The Focus 504 can control supported camera settings directly from the screen for RED, Sony, ARRI and Canon cameras. Compatible camera control licenses will be available for each brand. Check SmallHD’s compatibility list for your specific camera model, as support varies by camera.
Changing settings from the monitor means less reaching for menus on the camera body. That helps when the camera is on a gimbal, in a cage or in a hard-to-reach position.
The monitor has a full set of professional connections:
With both SDI and HDMI in and out, the Focus 504 works with everything from mirrorless bodies to cinema cameras. You can feed the monitor and loop the signal on to a second display, recorder or wireless video transmitter. The SDI connection suits production environments, where locking connectors are more reliable than HDMI.
The Focus 504 has four 1/4"-20 mounting points with ARRI locating pins. You can attach it to a cage, arm or accessory rail in the position that suits your rig, and the pins help keep it from rotating under load. A raised protective bezel guards the screen, which matters on location, in transit and in busy production environments.
