Outside Broadcast Trailer OB4 - Refurbishment Update (as of August 2026)

Our OB4 trailer has undergone an extensive programme of refurbishment covering its chassis, underbody, hydraulics, audio infrastructure, air conditioning, production area, and exterior finish. The work has been carried out to restore the vehicle to a condition suitable for continued professional use in demanding live broadcast environments, including sports, music, and large-scale live events.

Chassis and Underbody

The trailer has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment of its entire underbody and chassis structure. All existing steel subframes, underfloor lockers, and associated steelwork were removed and replaced with new components. New locker handles, locking mechanisms, and gas struts have been fitted throughout, and all lockers have been fully lined with chequer plate.

Where required, external body panels have been re-skinned to restore both the trailer's appearance and its structural integrity. The braking system has been renewed, and new air suspension airbags, tyres, and wheels have been fitted where necessary. The fifth wheel assembly has also been fully refurbished.

Almost all air pipework and electrical wiring beneath the trailer has been replaced, and new actuator valves have been installed for both the parking brake system and the air suspension system.

As part of this refurbishment, the coachbuilder stripped the trailer back to the original main chassis beams. Following thorough inspection, these beams were confirmed to be in excellent structural condition. From that point, virtually every component beneath the trailer was either refurbished or replaced with new, resulting in a fully restored chassis and underbody. Hydraulic System

The hydraulic system is currently undergoing a comprehensive refurbishment. All hydraulic rams are being removed, fully overhauled, resealed, tested, and refitted. The hydraulic cylinders are being grit-blasted, repainted, and restored to as-new condition.

All hydraulic pipework is being replaced with new pipework, and the system will be fitted with a new hydraulic pump, a new valve block, a complete new wiring loom, and a new electrical control panel, ensuring the hydraulic system is fully renewed.

Air Conditioning

All air conditioning units have been replaced with new systems, and all associated pipework has been either replaced or serviced.

Audio

The trailer retains its original Calrec Alpha Bluefin audio console, which has not been replaced as part of this refurbishment. The OB truck supports Dolby 5.1 surround sound. For customers seeking updated networking capability, an upgrade to a more modern audio console with Dante networking is available as an option.

Production Area and Monitor Bridge

The production area is exceptionally spacious, following the installation of new wall panels and flooring. The original monitor bridge has been retained. Lighting throughout the production area has been upgraded with new LED fixtures installed both in the ceiling and beneath the production desks.

Exterior Finish

The trailer is being resprayed in a white metallic finish. One side has been completed, with work on the opposite side scheduled to commence shortly. Photographs of the finish are available on request.

Electrical Systems

The entire electrical power system has been serviced, with all components either fully overhauled or replaced where necessary.
