24.2 MP Full-Frame sensor

Autofocus
Dual Pixel CMOS AF II brings deep-learning subject recognition to the R8 Mark II, identifying and tracking people, animals, and vehicles throughout the frame. Within people detection, the system shifts fluidly between eyes, faces, heads, and bodies as a subject's pose changes, and AF sensitivity extends down to -7.5EV for low-light focus acquisition. Register People Priority allows you to designate specific individuals for the camera to prioritise when multiple people are in frame - useful for weddings, events, or any shoot where one subject needs to remain the primary focus without manual intervention.

Stabilisation
New sensor-shift image stabilisation is the most significant addition over the original R8, providing up to 7.5 stops of correction and enabling coordinated operation with compatible stabilised RF lenses. This gives handheld shooters considerably more shutter-speed flexibility without a tripod or rig. For video, Movie Digital IS applies electronic correction specifically to recorded footage, offering an additional stabilisation layer for run-and-gun or handheld shooting situations.

Video Features
The R8 Mark II records 4K video at up to 60p, oversampled from 6K source data for additional detail retention over a native 4K readout. Canon Log 3 provides a flatter tonal profile with greater latitude for grading in post. Full HD recording reaches 180fps for slow-motion work, and 2.35:1 Cinema View offers a wider aspect ratio for composing footage. Four-channel audio recording expands sound-capture options when paired with compatible external audio gear, rounding out a video feature set aimed squarely at hybrid shooters.

In-Camera Colour
Filmtone Colour Filters and Picture Styles give photographers in-camera control over tonal and colour rendering without relying solely on post-production. Custom Picture and Look File support extend this further, allowing LUT-based looks to be applied directly in-camera - a workflow advantage for videographers who want a defined look straight out of the camera or a closer starting point for grading.

Connectivity and Media
A single UHS-II SD card slot supports the write speeds needed for continuous shooting and higher-bitrate video recording. Dual-band 2.4GHz/5GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3 enable wireless transfer, remote control, and automatic backup via image.canon. USB-C supports charging, external power, and UVC/UAC streaming at up to 4K 60p, making the camera viable as a webcam or livestreaming source without additional capture hardware. Design

Control placement has been reworked to reduce the time needed to reach frequently used functions, supporting faster adjustments as shooting conditions change.
