Sony announce New G Master 100mm f/2.8 STF OSS Lens and 85mm f/1.8 Portrait Prime

Sony just announced 2 new full-frame lenses. One of them being the highly anticipated 100mm f/2.8 Sony G Master STF OSS lens, which of course features optical image stabilisation, superb bokeh, and world-class sharpness.

The other lens that Sony announced is a more budget oriented 85mm f1.8, which many portrait and wedding photographers would appreciate.

The new G Master 100mm STF is purpose built for a truly unique, and gorgeous bokeh while at the same time maintaining world-class sharpness and colour rendition shared by Sony’s entire line of flagship G Master series lenses.

These impressive bokeh is achieved thanks to a newly designed 11-bladed aperture and a unique optical apodization lens element.

Similar to a neutral density filter that increases in density towards the edges, the apodization element creates beautiful transitions of in-focus to out-of-focus areas within an image, making for exceptionally soft, smooth bokeh that adds depth and dimensionality.

The new G Master 100mm lens is dust and moisture resistant has Image Stabilisation (known as Sony's Optical Steady Shot) and also supports both contrast AF and focal-plane phase detection auto-focus.

Covering both full-frame sensors in such cameras such as the Sony A7rII and the Sony A7s II, with its wide F1.8 aperture, the new 85mm f/1.8 FE is capable of some rather impressive, exceptionally sharp portraits with soft and pleasing bokeh when wide open or at larger apertures.

The new 85mm f/1.8 FE features a 9-bladed circular aperture, which contributes to a more natural looking bokeh, and a double linear motor system to allow for fast, precise and quiet focusing.

It also has a focus hold button that can be customised and assigned together with functions in the camera body like the popular Eye AF feature. There is a smooth, responsive focus ring and AF/MF switch as well, and the lens is also dust and moisture resistant.

See the presentation below to learn more about the new Sony lenses.

Pricing is expected to land at around £1600 for the 100mm f2.8 G Master, and £600 for the 85mm f1.8 FE. Both lenses are expected to ship in March.
