This week we are featuring the latest updates from Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve - bringing optimisation for the latest Apple processors, we take a look at the feature rich updates to Apple's Finalcut Pro and Aputure's announcement of their most powerful COB LED - The 1200d.
DaVinci Resolve 17.4
Blackmagic Design has just released a major update for DaVinci Resolve, which now supports the latest Apple Silicon chips. With the new DaVinci Resolve 17.4 update, editors and colorists can benefit from a significant speed increase when working with the new MacBook Pro models powered by the latest M1 Pro and M1 MAX chips, even on multiple 8K timelines. In addition, decoding 12K Blackmagic RAW files is now 3x faster, and H.265 rendering is 1.5x faster. The latest update also brings support for automatic colour management making it easier to setup a project, while the new 3D keyer makes it easier to create clean masks with more accurate keys and finer edges.
Final Cut Pro 10.6
Apple brings some long awaited features to Final Cut Pro in the latest 10.6 update. Taking full advantage of the latest powerful chips in their latest MacBook Pro machines, Final Cut Pro finally adds a native Object Tracker feature, which harnesses the power of machine learning to track & match objects movements with titles and effects. The new functionality makes it easy to manually add trackers and also make fine adjustments to the full track or partial segments, while using the power of the Apple Neural Engine on the latest Macs equipped with Apple Silicon chips. The latest update also brings stability improvements when working on projects with RED RAW and Avid DNxHR media.
Aputure recently unveiled their most powerful and brightest COB LED. The new Aputure 1200d is a daylight balanced, high-output LED light aimed at pro users and rental houses offering a massive light output of up to 83,000 lux when paired with their new 15 degrees Narrow reflector. Aputure also released two more reflectors - a Medium and a Wide version specifically designed for the 1200d. Sporting a bigger and beefier build than the 600d, the new top of the range COB is also dust and weather resistant, supports Lumenradio and DMX making it ready for any film set. In addition the 1200d has a Bowens mount making it compatible with a wide range of light modifiers, while the innovative design incorporates 4 Fan Modes designed to keep the light cool given the impressive light output that is capable of.
