Neil Thompson
After a few years as an engineer for the BBC at Ealing studios and TV Centre Neil Thompson joined Sony in 1989.

Working in product engineering, technical support and product management roles he was particularly involved in the establishment of digital cinematography with Digital Betacam, HDCAM and the F35, and helping to establish the dominant market share of BVP and HDC cameras in live production.

Since 2001 his work for Sony has been on a part time contract basis, until going freelance in 2012. Now doing training, systems engineering, small scale manufacturing and working as a Sony ICE.

In summary, he's spent a lot of time tinkering with cameras. For the last 25 years he's been supporting production crews and sales teams in the field, preparing marketing material, events and exhibitions, training end users and engineers, and managing the introduction of new products. Starting with the first generation of CCD cameras at the BBC, right through to the current '4K with everything' world.
