Panasonic GH4 Firmware Update 2.1 Adds TC over HDMI and Record Trigger for External Recorders

Panasonic release new firmware update for the Panasonic GH4 allowing for some highly awaited features such as Timecode embedded into the HDMI out stream. Very useful for those using external recorders such as the Atomos Shogun or the Odyssey7Q+ for a 10bit 422 ProRes HQ high quality recording.

This update also adds trigger recording to external recorders such as the above mentioned through the GH4 record button. Another major firmware addition for PAL users such as all of us over here in Europe, the GH4 can now output 1080p/30 and 25fps natively out of the HDMI – making your workflow much easier when feeding it into an Atomos Ninja, Ninja Star or a Samurai for example.

Even though some have alluded to a possible variant of “V-Log” gamma curve being added to the GH4 soon (similar to the one found in the Panasonic Varicam 35), as we see below, such an option is still yet to be added if ever. We do have our fingers crossed for it though, it just won't be in this update.

Here are the details of the new firmware.
