The Data Video Hard Disk Recorder and Intervelometer. True time lapse recording, using Data video's hard disk recorder and intervelometer. At visuals we are constantly asked for an inexpensive quality time lapse recording system and up to now our only solution has been either a mini camera used in its interval recording mode, which is far from ideal! The duration of recording and the interval between recordings is nether short enough, or more recently a HDW-750 fitted with a cache board, this however can overstretch most budgets. Data Video's DN-100 DV www.datavideo-tek.com/navigation_frames/dv_bank/entire.htm recorder is a 120GB hard disk drive which gives you 9hr of continues recording. Fire wire in and out allows you to connect to most if not all DV sources including cameras, computers and VTR's. The unit is simple to operate and works as a VTR. Front panel control options allow you to adjust play back speed up to a maximum of + - 32x. Menu options allow you to erase individual recordings, setup loop play back and display remaining disk space. When connected to Data video's TL-1 intervelometer www.datavideo-tek.com/navigation_frames/tl_1/entire.htm the DN-100DV becomes a time lap's recorder. The settings allow you to record 1 to 25 frames with an interval of 1second to 23hr 59minutes and 59 seconds.
The Unit is supplied with a standard PSU for mains operation and a DDC1512 dc to dc converter for battery operation. A cigarette lighter adaptor cable is also supplied for in car operation.
Some test recordings which we have made can be seen below. The cigarette was filmed 1 frame every 2 seconds and the ice was filmed at 1 frame per minute. The camera was a DSR-570wsp. Through our experiments we have found that you can use a DSR-PD170P as the source camera then switch it to VTR mode and make a transfer to tape from the DN-100DV without changing cable connections. Also we have found the Data video's DAC-10 is an indispensable device this provides a method for monitoring the image being recorded this unit is a bi-directional DV / Analogue video converter, it has the facility to embed and de-embed audio but this is only via phono connections. The DAC-10 will also convert to and from both composite and s-video.
